About the Item

Vintage studio art glass sculpture or paperweight features disk or pebble shaped body with swirling colored glass core in red, white, and blue colors, accented with large controlled bubbles on the sides and in the center and encased in prominent layer of clear glass in sommerso technique. Elongated, rounded bubbles with soft, organic lines direct the eye towards the central design element and upwards. The sculpture is signed on the side near the bottom. We are offering a flame shaped sculpture in the same color palette by Jim Karg, most probably from the same series, in a separate listing; the sculptures complement each other beautifully when displayed together, as shown in pictures. James Lee "Jim" Karg (1942-2018) was an established American glass artist; like his brother Rollin Karg, a prominent American glassblower based in in Kechi, Kansas, who became a full-time artist when he was 38 years old, Jim also begun his glassblowing career mid-life. Rollin started what was one of the first private glass artist studios in Kansas in 1980s; in 1990s Jim built his art glass studio in Douglasville, Georgia, where he created blown glass paperweights and sculptures. His work was represented at art shows and galleries nationwide. Striking example of vintage American studio art glass, with the elegant form, high quality craftsmanship, and tasteful, reserved color palette will make a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Organic Modern, Mid Century Modern, Arts and Crafts, Transitional, Modern Country, Art Deco, Neo Deco, Modern Heritage, Collected, or Contemporary.
