About the Item

These unusual hand-sculpted polychrome wax figurines on giltwood base depicting two Arabs relaxing on a sofa perfectly captures late 19th century Europe's perspective and aesthetic fascination with Middle Eastern cultures. These highly decorative statues, of narrow proportion, are the perfect eye-catching vitrine decorative objet d’art. Depict a man seated and smoking a pipe while the woman is relaxing herself on a comfortable couch, both attired in traditional colored garb with Turkish turban, their clothing capture the jovial spirit of relaxed celebrations and communal festivities. These unusual showcase collectibles items immediately create an exotic, whimsical effect to any decor. These figurines are very unusual, despite the convenient dimensions, every detail both of the seat and of the expressions and clothing is extremely nice, maniacally detailed and very truthful. They rest on oval giltwood base with round feet and finished with a cord throughout. Both the figures are very well carved in detail and brightly painted. Very good overall condition and desirable original patina considering material, age and use. One hand of the male statuette missing, we can provide restoration with an extra. Measures: Height 15, width 19, depth 11 cm.
