About the Item

Two blade-like bronze forms cross in a dynamic X, their dark patinated surfaces tapering to fine points as they pivot on slender rods above a black-and-brushed-metal circular base — a true kinetic work, engineered to rotate and shift in balance rather than merely suggest movement. The piece is signed and dated "George Baker 1990" and numbered 6 from an edition of 20, with a history of commission by the Los Angeles County Museum. George Baker (1931–1997) was an American sculptor and longtime Professor of Fine Arts at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Working primarily in bronze and steel, he built a reputation over four decades for kinetic works that move mechanically, with wind, or on water, executing large-scale commissions across the United States, Japan, and Germany. His sculptures are held in numerous public and private collections.

This is a stunning and rare collection of mirror polished bronze figures by Barbara Beretich from her estate. This collection contains 7 total pieces; we have 3 different figures represented. One group has 4 pieces (5" x 4.5" x 2"), one group has 2 ( 4" x 4" x 2"), and the the last is a single piece (3.5" x 2" x 2") Please see pictures. We have decided to offer this group of pieces as a collection. This is a great opportunity to have such a prolific collection of Beretich pieces; these figures will be sure to draw attention. They work well together and display well within a bowl. During her younger years in California, Beretich's family raised multiple animals including hogs, cows, sheep and horses. This was often a prominent influence in her sculpture. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in art. The following year Beretich spent time in Europe where she met and became lifelong friends with French artist, Francoise Gilot.Ater Europe, she moved to Claremont CA...
