About the Item

An exceptionally substantial and highly sculptural solid bronze work, reportedly one of the artist’s least-publicised and more elusive creations. According to the provenance supplied, the piece was originally retained within the artist’s private collection before subsequently travelling from the United States to a private collection in the United Kingdom in the early 2000s. Standing approximately 46 cm high and weighing more than 50 lb (22.7 kg), the sculpture has considerable physical presence. The bronze is mounted upon a finely veined Italian marble circular pedestal, finished underneath with a green wool-blend baize covering to protect display surfaces. Of particular interest is the sophisticated double-knuckle articulated mechanism, complete with its original locking handle. This allows the upper sculptural element to be repositioned through multiple directions, giving the work an unusual kinetic and functional quality in addition to its decorative appeal. The combination of richly patinated solid bronze, architectural marble and mechanical articulation gives the piece a distinctive sculptural character and makes it an impressive focal point for a sophisticated interior, library, study or collector's display.
