About the Item

An authentic hand-carved Dala horse by Nils Olsson, produced in the 1920s in the village of Nusnäs, the historic center of Sweden's most iconic folk art tradition. Hand-carved from pine and painted in the classic manner, this early example displays the simple, expressive form and exceptional craftsmanship for which the workshop of Nils Olsson became internationally renowned. Dating from the 1920s, it predates the large-scale commercial production of later decades, making it a particularly desirable and collectible example. The horse has acquired a wonderful patina through decades of age, reflecting its history while preserving its decorative appeal. Rich in Swedish cultural heritage, the Dala horse has long been regarded as a symbol of craftsmanship, good fortune, and traditional Scandinavian design. A charming and increasingly rare early example, ideal for collectors of Scandinavian folk art or as a distinctive decorative object.
