About the Item

This rare and unique murano art glass bird sculpture paperweight was hand made on the venetian island of murano in Italy. Crafted by master craftsmen during the mid 20th century in the venetian workshops of Seguso, Salviati or Barbini using the iconic sommerso technique where layers of glass a submerged inside one another creating a sublime and ethereal elegance that is difficult to duplicate. The colors gradually change from a cranberry red pink at the top of the bird's head to lavendar, purple, violet and then to clear the further from the head one's eye travels. This murano art glass bird figurine is ideal for the discerning collector of rare and unusual mid century modern works of art. A real iconic design from the atomic age.
