About the Item

This elegant French Art Deco sculpture of two racing greyhounds was designed by Charles Lemanceau and produced by the Sainte-Radegonde ceramic factory in France circa 1930. Capturing the dogs in full stride, the composition conveys remarkable speed, movement, and athletic grace, making it an outstanding example of French animal sculpture from the Art Deco period. The two greyhounds are represented side by side in a dynamic racing pose, with elongated bodies, extended legs, and streamlined silhouettes. Their stylized anatomy reflects the geometric elegance and fascination with motion that characterized European decorative arts during the 1920s and 1930s. The subtle modeling of the musculature and the rhythmic arrangement of the figures give the sculpture a powerful yet refined visual presence. Charles Lemanceau was a prominent French sculptor and ceramic artist particularly recognized for his modernist representations of animals.
