About the Item

Monumental Sergio Bustamante brass and copper lions head for wall mounting. Made in Mexico label present. Apparently unsigned. Due to its size this piece is best transported by white glove. Born in Culiacán Sinaloa in 1949, he is a designer, painter and craftsman based in Tlaquepaque Jalisco since 1966. He studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara under the direction of teacher Ignacio Díaz Morales. He was attracted to drawing, design and watercolor. He began working with paper mache, clay and brass. He opened, together with a friend, a craft store in Tonalá, Jal. and later founded his workshop there in. He soon began to taste the joys of success. He traveled to Europe where he lived for some years. Upon his return to Mexico, he ventured into painting, where, as in craftsmanship, he has had excellent acceptance by the public. He presented his first painting exhibition at the Misrachi Gallery, in Mexico City, DF. Later his work has been exhibited in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Culiacán and other important cities in Mexico and in the main capitals of the world. In 1998, his individual exhibition "La Inútil Permanencia" stands out at the Regional Museum of Guadalajara. He has also dedicated himself to jewelry, an activity in which he has also achieved great projection. His start in painting was self-taught and unplanned, he entertained himself by drawing to "rest from craftsmanship." In his own words: "painting has been for me to be serious, very intimate and very deep. It is looking at places that before I did not dare to look inside myself, now that I have looked out, contrary to the result that would have been unhappy, it has been very happy, I have never felt so good." Without a doubt, talking about Sergio Bustamante is talking about a great figure, recognized both nationally and internationally. His crafts, sculptures, furniture and jewelry, have had enormous acceptance both in Mexico and in the United States and Europe.
