Antique Continental Gilt Bronze Ormolu Gold Female Bust Figure Sculpture Continental Ormolu (Gilt Bronze) c. 1900 Dimensions: H x D: 13cm x 7cm This charming decorative figure is cast as a female bust. Crafted at the turn of the 20th century, it reflects the cultural and societal shifts of the time. Busts were commonly displayed in bourgeois homes, however, with the growth of the middle class and their increasing disposable income, smaller collectible busts like this one became highly desirable. Valued for their design and craftsmanship, these pieces often depicted famous individuals, classical figures, or, as in this case, anonymous idealised women. The young lady is portrayed with a fashionable hairstyle and a joyful, happy expression. A voluminous bonnet with delicate feather detailing adorns her head, secured by a ribbon that wraps under her chin and ties at her chest.
