Elegant 19th Century Italian Alabaster Bust of a Vestal Virgin A superb example of a 19th Century Italian craftsmanship, this finely carved alabaster bust depicts a serene veiled woman. the piece reflects Italy's mastery of marble and alabaster carving, particularly in the delicate treatment of drapery and expression. Carved from luminous alabaster, this sculpture takes full advantage of the stones soft translucency, allowing light to gentle animate the surface and impart a lifelike warmth to the figure. The sculptor has demonstrated remarkable technical skill in the delicate rendering of the veil which drapes gracefully over the subjects head and shoulders, Along with intricate detail along the edge of the veil and fine lace work on the neckline. The subjects downcast gaze and serene expression evoke a sense of calm contemplation inline with its spiritual presence.
