About the Item

This 19th Century bronze figure of Silenus, God of wine, and tutor of Dionysus, is depicted wrestling a serpent. The serpent represented wisdom and eternal life to the Ancients. It is modeled after the sculpture found at Pompeii excavated in 1864, and is most likely by the Sommer Foundry in Naples. It was used as a wine table by the previous owner, and we include the round black stone top, custom made for the sculpture. The table top measures 12" round.
