About the Item

A fine antique French porcelain centerpiece. In the style of Jacob Petit and possibly by Hannong. In the form of cultivated spring with a small pagoda and set of steps, a grassy outcropping with flora throughout, and a small spring and creeks at its center. Cast with numerous open sockets throughout that hold figurines depicting various Chinese characters and a pagoda. The figures include a fisherman, a mother with a basket & child, a nobleman with a chicken & child, and recumbent child. Each positioned at different levels of the spring. The top of the model terminating in a pagoda. Marked to the base with an incised mark. Simply a wonderful, antique French porcelain centerpiece of Chinese interest! (Together with an old felted wooden base.) Date: 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There are condition issues and old restorations throughout. Noted are: A hairline crack that runs the from the back to the front, a noticeable chip, and fritting to the base. Both the mother and father figures lack the top of their hats. The father and child figure has restoration to the bird and at the base of his cloak. The mother and child figure has a large chip to the childs's robe and back foot. The fisherman has repairs to the his basket, his bucket, and the base of his robe as as well as a chip the base. The finial of the pagoda is detached. There are repairs to the foot of the top section and the top of the base section. Otherwise, there is some rubbing to the gold throughout, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: In the style of Jacob Petit.
