About the Item

A very cool and unique "Day of the Dead" three-piece Folk Art sculpture of Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera signed by Mexican artist, Demetrio Garcia Aguliar, circa 1990s. The piece depicts Rivera painting one of his masterpieces, "The Flower Carrier", with Frida watching from a wheel chair. The piece is handcrafted and painted with amazing detail. #1297 Diego measures: 4" W x 6" D x 10" H and Frida is 4.5" W x 4" D x 8.5" H Demetrio is one of Oaxaca's most talented folk artists. He is the son of master folk artist Josefina Aguilar from Ocotlan, Oaxaca. As a child, he helped his mother paint her ceramic pieces. As an adult, he has developed his own style and is highly acclaimed in his own right. He has exhibited around the world including the International Folk Art Festival in Santa Fe, NM. His work is featured in the book "Oaxacan Ceramics" by Lois Wasserspring (Chronicle Books).
