About the Item

Beautiful terracotta bust after Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, made in the early 20th century and depicting the famous Rieur Napolitain (“Laughing Neapolitan”), one of the sculptor’s most expressive and iconic figures. This model perfectly captures the spirit of Carpeaux: a vivid realism, an emotion caught in the moment, and an exceptional sense of movement. The young boy, smiling and mischievous, displays remarkably fine modelling, both in the face and in the drapery and detailed hair. The terracotta shows a warm, attractive patina, highlighting the reliefs and enhancing the liveliness of the expression. A decorative piece full of charm and humanity, faithful to the spirit of the original work. Very good overall condition, with minor signs of age consistent with its period. An expressive and decorative sculpture, perfect for a living room, library, collector’s cabinet, or any classical or eclectic interior.
