Goldscheider Art Deco Ceramic Sculpture of a Dancing Couple Spanish Dancers Motif Circa 1930, Vienna, Austria Excellent condition, no cracks or chips, no restorations Marked, sealed, and numbered on the base Signed by its designer, Josef Lorenzl Model No. 5775 Material: Painted Ceramic Josef Lorenzl (September 1, 1892 – August 15, 1950) was an Austrian sculptor and ceramicist of the Art Deco period, the same era as Ferdinand Preiss (1882–1943) and Demetre Chiparus (1886–1947). Lorenzl was born on September 1, 1882, in Vienna, Austria, and died there on August 15, 1950. Little is known about his early years, but more is known about his later life. Lorenzl began his career working at a foundry at the Vienna Arsenal, where he learned bronze casting techniques. The Vienna Arsenal was a military storage complex located in the southeastern part of Vienna. The Goldscheider Porcelain and Majolica Manufactory (German: Goldscheider'sche Porzellan-Manufactur und Majolica-Fabrik; later: Goldscheider Keramik) was an Austrian ceramics factory specializing in decorative objects made of porcelain, terracotta, earthenware, and bronze.
