About the Item

Small french bronze sculpture of the mythological huntress Atalanta, cast by the iconic Thiébaut Frères foundry during its final years as “Thiébaut Frères, Fumière et Cie” (1920–1926). Atalanta, famed for her speed and independence, vowed to marry only a suitor who could outrun her. Many tried and failed — all but Hippomenes, who won the race not by strength, but through divine cunning. This bronze captures her grace and power in motion, poised mid-stride as she chases her destiny. Unmarked but attibuted to the “Fumière et Cie', where Thiébaut Frères foundry operated under this name. This period marked the twilight of one of France’s greatest bronze ateliers, renowned for its technical mastery and classical themes. Mounted on a green marble base, this piece complements its counterpart, the “Hippomenes Throwing Golden Apples,” forming a powerful narrative pair in classical mythology - also available in our store. Perfect for collectors of Grand Tour bronzes, neoclassical themes, or fine 20th-century French sculpture.
