Exceptional Grand Tour Neoclassical Carrara marble Florentine School sculpture of a young boy praying (likely Saint John the Baptist as a youth) - after a similar sculpture by Luigi Bienaimé in the Met Museum where the pose and gaze are strikingly alike - featuring 'in the round' exquisite sensitivity and delicate hand carving throughout with exceptional gentle facial modeling - the sculpture anchored to a stepped octagonal gray marble base - honed finish to the marble that comes with age, use and handling - possible discreet incised initials of the artist or workshop into the lower drapery fold (waiting for definitive academic attribution) - Italy (Florence) - circa 1850. Excellent / pristine antique condition - no loss - no damage - no restoration - minor scuffs and stains to the marble - signs of age and use. Size / Dimensions - Medium - 7 1/8" Wide x 7 1/8" Deep x 20 3/4" High. Weight - 30.40 Lbs.
