IGNIS
"The Rebirth of Fire"
There are forces that destroy.
And there are forces that transform.
IGNIS was born from the latter.
Designed by sculptor Burak Ermis in collaboration with Haand, this monumental steel sculpture embodies the eternal cycle of destruction, renewal, and rebirth. Inspired by the mythical Phoenix, the work captures the precise moment when flame becomes form and movement becomes permanence.
Across countless civilizations, fire has symbolized both an ending and a beginning. It consumes what no longer serves, yet clears the path for something stronger to emerge. IGNIS embraces this ancient symbolism through hundreds of individually shaped steel elements that appear to rise, twist, and unfold like living flames suspended in space.
Every component was cut, formed, welded, and assembled entirely by hand. Layer upon layer, the sculpture was built using traditional metalworking techniques, transforming raw industrial steel into a dynamic architectural composition. The handcrafted construction remains intentionally visible, revealing the labor, precision, and artistic vision embedded within every detail.
The sculpture's richly textured rusted finish is not merely a surface treatment but an essential part of its identity. Through a controlled oxidation process, the steel develops warm tones of burnt amber, deep sienna, and weathered copper, creating a finish that evolves beautifully over time. The result is a living surface that continuously interacts with light, shadow, and the surrounding environment.
From a distance, IGNIS appears as a powerful winged figure emerging from flame. Up close, the sculpture reveals an intricate network of layered steel ribbons, each contributing to a sense of movement, tension, and transformation. As sunlight travels across the surface, the work shifts throughout the day, offering a constantly changing visual experience.
More than a sculpture, IGNIS is a symbol of resilience—the ability to rise after adversity, to transform through challenge, and to emerge stronger than before.
Created as a statement piece for collectors, luxury residences, hospitality environments, corporate campuses, and public installations, IGNIS stands as a contemporary monument to renewal and human perseverance.
