About the Item

Impressive Japanese bronze sculpture depicting a roaring tiger in motion, finely cast and richly patinated, with inset glass eyes, mounted on its original carved wooden base. The tiger is captured mid-stride with raised head, open jaws exposing fangs, and tail elegantly curved behind, conveying remarkable power and movement. The anatomy is rendered with great attention to detail, particularly in the muscular body, paws, facial expression, and textured mane. The dark patinated bronze surface is enriched with warm reddish-brown tonal variations that subtly evoke the tiger’s striped coat. Particularly striking are the original inset glass eyes, which lend the animal an intense, lifelike expression. The underside bears a rectangular cast seal mark. Dating from the late Meiji to early Taishō period, circa 1890–1920, this is a powerful and highly decorative example of Japanese animalier bronze sculpture.
