1920s French Art Deco Bronze Nude "Scarf Dancer" Sculpture by Alexandre Kéléty

1920s French Art Deco Bronze Nude "Scarf Dancer" Sculpture by Alexandre Kéléty

By Alexandre Kéléty

Located in St. Louis, MO

An exceptional, highly dynamic, and investment-grade French Art Deco patinated bronze figural sculpture titled "Scarf Dancer," masterfully executed by the celebrated Hungarian-born Parisian artist Alexandre Kéléty (1874–1940), circa 1925. Captured flawlessly in the accompanying photos, this iconic interwar composition perfectly embodies the kinetic energy, fluid rhythm, and avant-garde glamour of the Jazz Age. Cast in solid bronze, the athletic female figure is depicted poised mid-performance, balancing beautifully on a textured, rock-like incline that serves as the integrated bronze base. She holds aloft a deeply draped, wind-swept scarf that sweeps forward in a dramatic, fluid arc, serving as a brilliant architectural counterweight that creates magnificent sculptural tension. This specific example boasts an incredibly fine, crisp casting, retaining sharp, pristine delineation in the facial features, musculature, fingers, and the deep, precise folds of the drapery. The piece features a rich, warm golden-brown original living patina that beautifully highlights the sophisticated modeling. The work features Kéléty's incised script signature embedded directly into the bronze, accompanied by a crisp, early cast sequence or edition number "8" to the right. Additionally, it is authentically stamped "FRANCE" on the reverse side, a definitive mark of a genuine, early 20th-century lifetime foundry casting produced for the upscale international export market. Offered in excellent vintage condition with minor, age-appropriate surface wear, this signature Parisian Art Deco sculpture stands as a museum-worthy statement addition for discerning collectors.
