About the Item

A rare 19th-century German Meissen porcelain figure representing Fire, from the celebrated Four Elements series originally modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler (1706–1775), one of the most influential sculptors in the history of the Meissen manufactory. The composition depicts a cherub engaged in the preparation of chocolate, seated beside a small table and brick-built stove with a vessel heating over the flames. Finely modelled and delicately hand-painted, the figure combines playful Rococo character with the remarkable attention to detail associated with Kändler’s designs. The model forms part of Meissen’s allegorical Four Elements — Fire, Water, Earth and Air series, with the chocolate-making scene serving as an imaginative representation of Fire. A charming and collectible example of 19th-century Meissen porcelain after one of Kändler’s important 18th-century models. Condition: Displays well, with age-related condition issues. The kettle has losses/chipping to the handle and spout, as noted. We ship tracked, worldwide.
