About the Item

An important and high-quality pair of French 19th century patinated Bronze statues of Rebecca and Ruth. These two women of biblical times are known for their kindness and generosity, with Rebecca and Ruth finding their future husbands due to their selflessness and gratitude. Each elegant statue is raised on a stepped pedestal with an Ormolu base plate and their names carved and gilded on the rounded front. Rebecca and Ruth are both dressed in classical flowing garments, Rebecca holding a water container and Ruth grasping a handful of wheat with a water container at her feet. Both Rebecca and Ruth have their hair tied back in period head wraps.

Pair 19th Century French Bronze Statues by Auguste Moreau '1855-1919'

Located in Dallas, TX

Pair 19th Century French bronze statues by Louis Auguste Moreau (1855-1919) are exemplary examples of the glorification of the simple rural life celebrated by artists in France during the Belle Epoque. A distinctive departure from rendering affluent families and lifestyles as dictated by the many patrons of art over the centuries, this informal movement gave a glimpse into the lives of everyday people.
