About the Item

Philippe Berry (French, 1956-2019), number 2 of an edition of eight, entitled: ''Sans les Mains'' (Without Hands), 1996, cast aluminum, initialed ''P.B.'', dated, and inscribed ''Fonderie du Gour''. Measurement of sculpture without the stand 9-3/4'' H, 19-3/4'' L, 7-1/2'' W. After studying at ESAG Penninghen in 1974, Philippe Berry first worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for various textile houses before becoming a model maker, then artistic director in various advertising agencies. Between 1980 and 1984, Philippe Berry created posters for the cinema and theatrical scenery studies (in particular for Nuit d'ivresse, The Ex-Woman of My Life, Kitchen and Addictions, Solo, Partners, Un grand cri d'amore…) . Passionate about art, he embarked on painting before devoting himself fully to sculpture in 1988. His work is based on the exploration of childhood. He describes himself as an artist motivated by joy and envy and sees his art as a way of bringing to life the toys he loves and wants to pass on. He likes the idea that we can have different views on his works, thus offering a multiple reading. Philippe Berry's work is a perfect blend of childish, colorful works and works of reflection on balance, technique and freedom.

Brutalist Sculpture by Ronald Gonzalez, American, circa 1996 Axe Man

Brutalist Sculpture by Ronald Gonzalez, American, circa 1996 Axe Man

Located in Hudson, NY

Fantastic sculpture by American artist Ronald Gonzalez. Titled Axe Man and created in the 1990s. This item is accompanied with a letter of authenticity from the artist. Ronald Mario Gonzalez is a sculptor and installation artist known for transforming timeworn objects and abject materials into haunting serial forms. Since the mid-1970s, Gonzalez has developed a distinctive visual language through reimagining discarded fragments as vessels of memory, identity, and mortality. His practice privileges process and improvisation through material invention and object investigations giving human presence and psychological weight to evocative heads, figures, and assemblages that explore loss and the reclaiming of history and memory. Gonzalez constructs an unsettling, yet deeply resonant sculptural universe memorializing and animating the passage of time and existential complexities of the human condition. His work has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D C. De Cordova Museum & Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA. Savanna College of Art & Design, Savannah, GA. The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, Lawrence, KS. Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis, MI. Everson Museum, Syracuse, NY.
