About the Item

This well preserved tooth is 40 to 34 million years old from the Late Eocene Period. Basilosaurus was first thought to be a reptile but was later identified as a genus of ancient cetaceans. Unlike modern cetaceans, basilosaurus had various types of teeth in its mouth, and was able to chew its food unlike modern cetaceans. This tooth's unique shape would be a stunning addition in any collection. Our Basilosaurus teeth are native to Dakhla Western Sahara, South Morocco.
