About the Item

A spectacular monolithic cross-section of the renowned Sericho meteorite, revealing the extraordinary crystalline structure unique to pallasite meteorites, with vibrant amber-coloured olivine crystals suspended in a shimmering metallic iron-nickel matrix. Making up only 0.2% of all meteorites, pallasites are the rarest and most mesmerising examples, and are highly sought after by collectors and museums. This cross-section reveals their mesmerising internal structure, consisting of gems of semi-precious and translucent amber-coloured olivine suspended in a shimmering iron-nickel matrix which has been polished to a mirror finish. Of all known pallasites, Sericho is especially celebrated for its high concentration of olivine crystals, often displaying varying hues of orange, yellow and green when spotlit or in direct sunlight. Cross-sections of this scale and integrity are particularly rare. While prized for their beauty, Sericho meteorites are also notoriously prone to oxidation if not treated correctly. This piece has been carefully prepared, resulting in a stable specimen that retains both its visual clarity and structural integrity. Weight: 1240 g Provenance Discovered in Isiolo County, Eastern Kenya, 2016; US Private collection. Condition Cut and polished cross section revealing beautiful olivine crystals. Treated and lacquered for safe handling. Presented on a bespoke bronze display stand. Please note that this item is a work of art and is thus exempt from US reciprocal tariffs.
