About the Item

Circa 1880, this elegant antique three-piece garniture set was crafted in France by the celebrated faience manufactory Faïencerie de Gien, founded in 1821 and renowned for producing richly decorated earthenware inspired by Renaissance ornament and historical European decorative arts. The set includes a pair of tall baluster vases and a matching rectangular jardinière with raised side handles. Each piece is lavishly decorated with intricate Renaissance Revival motifs including winged cherubs, griffins, classical portrait medallions, scrolling foliage, and ornamental trophies. The lively decoration is rendered in a vibrant palette of cobalt blue, ochre, and burnt orange against a creamy faience ground, while bold cobalt borders frame the rims and bases, adding strong visual contrast. The underside bears the printed Gien factory mark along with hand-painted decorator’s numbers. Richly detailed yet balanced in form, this antique garniture set would make an impressive decorative statement on a mantel, console, or dining room sideboard. Excellent antique condition commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: Vases: 7" Diameter x 18.25"H Jardinière: 13"W x 6.5"D x 8.5"H
