About the Item

This is a French Porcelain Apothecary Jar. It depicts a cylindrical lidded jar with white background hand painted in the front with a rectangular plaque with gold borders and the name in Latin, Castoreum. The borders of the plaque are hand painted green, gold, black and white. Each side of the borders has in the center a round or oval framed scene with red background and yellow border. The one in the top has a large bee with two branches of leaves at each side. The lid is shaped as a doctoral tam with a flatted orb finial. Below the base is hallmarked CP, Merum or Mexum,France.
