About the Item

Beautiful Ancient Greek Skyphos vessel, Corinthian, dating between the 7th and 6th centuries BCE. Featuring beautiful deep cup form with twin horizontal loop handles, one on either side. Showing banded black decoration surrounding the upper portion of the cup. Skyphos were vessels used for wine during banquets or parties, known as symposia. A simple yet extremely beautiful example of ancient Corinthian pottery, showing its eastern trade influences in form. Old crack and repair present, but solid in condition and full in form. Provenance: from old Canadian collection, purchased in European antiquities auction market, early 2000’s.
