About the Item

Rare Mid-19th Century French Terracotta Cruche, Orjol, Jar with two handles Large ceramic jug of French folk art with two handles (we can see on one of the pictures that a third handle was perhaps planned and that it did not take during the firing.). It is typical of the jugs of southern France used to contain oil. It is made of raw clay with the remains of a dark green glaze. This type of utilitarian earthenware was used to store and keep food cool. They could also be buried in fresh earth or stored in the cellars. These typically French jars are used today to decorate interiors or exteriors to which one wishes to give a touch of country charm and authenticity. This one is pierced under the base, so it can be used as a planter. This is an old object that has wear marks, be sure to look at the pictures because they complete the description of the item. The jar was pierced under the base to be used as a planter.
