About the Item

A wonderfully tactile mid-20th-century planter hand cast in iron to resemble a hollow section of fallen timber. The irregular bark texture, cut-log end, projecting branches, and deeply weathered brown surface give the piece the convincing character of natural wood. Low and sculptural, it is ideally proportioned for a small arrangement of herbs, moss, succulents, or freshly cut garden flowers. It would sit naturally on a French farmhouse windowsill, English country kitchen table, conservatory shelf, or weathered garden-room console. Dimensions: 10.25ʺ W × 7ʺ D × 3ʺ H Materials: Hand-cast iron Period and style: Mid-20th century; Faux Bois, Trompe l’Oeil, French Country and English Country Condition: Very good vintage condition with surface oxidation, tonal variation, and patina consistent with age Notable features: Hollow log form with modeled bark, cut end, branch details, and a low planting cavity
