About the Item

Superb pair of 19th-century cassolettes in the Louis XVI style, crafted in finely chased bronze and alabaster with rich natural tones. Each piece stands on a square bronze base decorated with laurel leaves, surmounted by a very elegant fluted socle. The ovoid alabaster body, with warm veining ranging from honey to amber brown, creates a remarkable contrast with the bronze mount. The distinctive feature of this pair lies in its sculpted handles: two young triton boys in the round, delicately modeled, appearing to support the pierced upper gallery. This mythological decoration brings great movement and refinement to the ensemble. Highly decorative, these cassolettes can be displayed alone, as a centerpiece on a mantel, or on a sideboard, and also make beautiful cabinet of curiosities objects. Beautiful original patina. Light wear consistent with age. Rare and very elegant pieces, typical of 19th-century French decorative production inspired by Antiquity.
