About the Item

An alluring Japanese Ando Jubei musen shippo (wireless cloionne) "jade green" silver mounted vase by the Ando Cloisonne Company (Ando Shippo Ten) for the export market, Showa Era, circa 1930's, Japan. The elegant vase of baluster form, with a splayed foot, narrow waist, generous body, high shoulders, squat neck, and wide, slightly everted mouth. Musen shippo (wireless cloisonne) on copper and mounted with silver rims. The body decorated with a wide band of scrolling peony blossoms and leaves that circumscribes the vase. The peonies in a pale green to white enamel, contrasting nicely against the darker bluish green celadon ground, a color often referred to as "jade green". Marked with the Ando factory mark in wired cloisonne to the underside. The footrim marked "silver". The design worked in the musen shippo technique, a "wireless" cloisonne technique in which the wire cloisons are removed before firing the enamels, creating a dreamy and ethereal effect in the design.
