About the Item

Striking hand-blown studio art glass vase by American glass artist Bruce Freund, signed and dated “Freund 85” on the underside. #5632 The substantial ovoid form features a richly iridescent blue-green ground with flashes of violet, turquoise and metallic tones. An intricate pulled-feather decoration sweeps vertically around the body in repeating cream-colored patterns, creating an almost botanical or peacock-feather effect. The vase is finished with a dramatically flared, rolled rim in luminous cobalt and turquoise blue. The combination of controlled feathering, iridescent surface and saturated color gives the piece considerable visual depth, changing noticeably as it is viewed from different angles and under different lighting. A particularly attractive example of American studio glass from the mid-1980s and an excellent decorative piece for a contemporary, Mid-Century Modern or eclectic interior.
