About the Item

A striking example of Italian Murano art glass from the 1970s, this sculptural vase showcases the refined Sommerso (“submerged”) glassmaking technique, where multiple layers of coloured crystal are encased within clear glass to create exceptional depth and optical brilliance. This geometric design is a well-documented Murano form from the period and remains highly sought after by collectors of post-war Italian glass. The vase features a vivid emerald green core enveloped by a luminous uranium-yellow layer and finally encased within thick, precision-cut clear crystal. Its sharply faceted silhouette transforms with changing light, producing remarkable reflections and a strong architectural presence despite its compact size. Every angle reveals a different interplay of colour, transparency and light, making it equally captivating as a standalone decorative object or displayed alongside other Murano glass. Beautifully balanced between modernist simplicity and technical virtuosity, this piece reflects the exceptional craftsmanship for which Murano became internationally celebrated during the second half of the twentieth century. Its sculptural quality allows it to function as both a functional vase and a work of glass art. Details: * Dimensions: Height: 17 cm (6.7 in). Width: 6.5 cm (2.6 in). * Condition: Very good vintage condition. The vase displays light signs of age and use, including a few fine surface scratches and minor wear to the underside consistent with careful handling over time. There is one tiny flea bite to the inner rim of the neck. The chip is located on the inside edge, is not visible during normal display, and does not detract from the overall presentation.
