About the Item

Hand-thrown and hand-painted stoneware vase from Rörstrand’s art department (Drejargruppen), created by Swedish master ceramist Carl-Harry Stålhane in 1976. The tall, flared form is decorated with Stålhane’s signature painterly abstraction - earthy brown and rust tones offset by vivid cobalt and soft blue fields, arranged in rhythmic geometric composition. Pieces from Stålhane’s late Rörstrand period are among his most collectible, made in small batches where every work was individually glazed and signed. This example exemplifies his mature style: confident, expressive, and deeply tactile. A fine collector’s piece that captures the modernist meeting of artistry and craftsmanship. Signed and dated on the base: “R Sweden Drejargruppen 1976.” • Height 18 cm (7.1 in) • Diameter 11.5 cm (4.5 in) • Material: Hand-painted stoneware • Artist: Carl-Harry Stålhane (1920–1990) • Manufacturer: Rörstrand, Drejargruppen Art Department • Made in Sweden, 1976 • Very good vintage condition – minor chip on the underside edge, not visible when displayed About Carl-Harry Stålhane (1920–1990): Carl-Harry Stålhane was one of Sweden’s foremost ceramic artists and designers, active at Rörstrand from the 1930s through the 1970s. Trained as both painter and sculptor, he moved effortlessly between industrial design and art ceramics. His work from the 1970s Drejargruppen studio is especially admired for its painterly surfaces and expressive individuality - each piece a unique synthesis of modernist form and artisanal craftsmanship.
