About the Item

This vessel is a classic example of a Chinese Sancai-glazed double dragon-handled amphora. It is a high-quality reproduction in Min Guo era, circa 1920s. The name Sancai translates to "three colors", typically featuring lead-based glazes in rich amber brown, green, and a creamy straw-white tone. The colorful glaze is applied here in a rhythmic, spotted pattern dripping down the vessel's shoulders. The most defining silhouette feature is the pair of arched handles formed as stylized dragon heads biting down on the cupped rim of the vessel. This specific form reflects the cultural exchange along the ancient Silk Road. The overall amphora shape stems from Greco-Roman and Western Asian traditions, while the double dragon handles are uniquely Chinese adaptations Size: 31in H x 12.5in D Origin: China Circa: 1920s Material: Ceramic Condition: Original condition, hand crafted, normal age wear.
