About the Item

This striking studio vase presents a sculptural form and richly layered glaze, balancing a grounded silhouette with fluid surface detail. The vessel features a rounded, bulbous belly tapering gracefully into a narrow base with hand-thrown ridges that offer subtle texture. The matte black lower half contrasts with the upper body’s vibrant greenish-blue tones, achieved through layered glazes with dramatic vertical drips in earthy greens, browns, and turquoise. The effect is painterly, almost landscape-like—reminiscent of oxidized copper, mossy stone, or rain-drenched forest. A small band of stylized detailing rings the neck just below the rim, adding structure to the otherwise expressive surface. The vase is signed discreetly just above the base, with a hand-incised signature —suggesting individual craftsmanship rather than factory production. At just 2.5 inches in diameter, the narrow mouth is ideal for a small arrangement of wild grasses or a single sculptural stem, though the piece displays beautifully on its own. A one-of-a-kind form that adds movement, depth, and tonal variation to a console or shelf display.
