About the Item

Hyonsun Rhee for Upsala Ekeby Vase, model 5044, 1960s. Cylindrical stoneware vase with green glaze and relief decoration in the lower part of the body. Origin: Sweden, Upsala Ekeby. Designer: Hyonsun Rhee Material: Stoneware. Dimensions: H. 18 cm, D. 8 cm. Period: 1963-65 Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of use. Hyonsun Rhee (born 1938 in Tokyo to South Korean parents). He studied ceramics at the Kyoto College of Art in Japan during the late 1950s. His first exhibition took place in Tokyo in 1961. In 1962 he moved to Stockholm and studied at Konstfack, Sweden’s university of arts, crafts and design. Between 1963 and 1965, he worked as a designer for the Swedish ceramic company Upsala-Ekeby. His works for Upsala-Ekeby are noted for their experimental use of clay and glaze, combined with decorative motifs that reflect his East Asian cultural heritage.
