About the Item

Important Pair of Antique Chinese Export Famille Rose Ormolu Mounted covered Lantern Vases / Potpourri with Openwork Reticulated Decoration A pair of hexagonal Chinese Export famille rose porcelain lantern vases or potpourri of faceted baluster form, each fitted with a domed cover surmounted by a scrolling ormolu flame finial. The bodies are mounted with pierced ormolu collars and supported on scrolling ormolu bases terminating in foliate feet. Elaborate scrolling handles rise from the rim and descend along the shoulders and sides, joining the lower mounts in a continuous framework. The porcelain ground is decorated in famille rose enamels with a dense pink floral diaper pattern reserved with shaped medallions enclosing peony sprays and small vessel motifs. Prominent reticulated panels in pale blue, green, lavender, and pink are arranged around the body, executed in openwork archaistic kuilong decoration with stylized dragon forms and central "shou"(longevity) medallions. The covers and rims are bordered with gilt geometric bands, while the ormolu mounts display pierced scrolling ornament and chased foliate detail. These Chinese Export porcelain lantern vases were produced for the Western market and reflect the continued demand for famille rose wares decorated with pierced ornament. The reticulated porcelain panels relate to openwork techniques associated with late eighteenth and early nineteenth century Chinese production. The ormolu mounts are attributed to Henry Dasson and were applied later in Paris during the mid to late nineteenth century. Henry Dasson specialized in gilt bronze mounted furniture and decorative objects, often incorporating Asian porcelain within French mounts produced for collectors and aristocratic interiors. His workshop became known for refined chasing, mercury gilding, and the adaptation of Chinese porcelain into French decorative forms during the height of Orientalist and chinoiserie taste. The scale, quality of the ormolu, and complex pierced porcelain decoration support the strong value and desirability of this pair. Height: 16”

18th C. Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Mandarin 3-Piece Vase Garniture Set

Located in New York, NY

An 18th century Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Mandarin 3-Piece vase Garniture Set. A status symbol between the 17th and 19th centuries, most garniture sets have by now been damaged or broken up with the individual pieces sold off. Few complete sets now exist, and even fewer survive in their original state, which makes this beautifully painted set of three Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose vases so much more special. With mandarin orange and gilt unusually bold and swooping dragon handles, each delicately decorated vase is completed with a lid seating a gloriously pompous foo dog. The bodies are decorated with hand painted famille rose flowerpot cartouches, as well as, chirping birds, and banded flowers and vines. The exquisite hand painted tastefully colored floral displays each with their own hand painted vase creates a freshness and inspires within us the IDEA for further additions of fresh flowers within the home. One of the porcelain, three (3) piece garniture set, is smaller and has a variation of banded colors around its fluted foot, lending just the right amount of visual variation to this gorgeous trio. The white porcelain bulbous bodies are further decorated with colorful insects...
