About the Item

Colonna vase designed by Tom Dixon and produced by Salviati in 2003. Limited edition of 101 pieces. Number 98. Signed. Biography Tom Dixon is an innovative British designer, known as a maverick amongst his peers due to his highly original and extraordinary pieces. He was born in Tunisia in 1959, before moving to England with his family in 1963. After high school, Dixon attended the Chelsea School of Art briefly. Tom Dixon is a self-taught designer who developed his craft after a motorbike accident which made him learn how to weld. He then went on to turn industrial scrap into furniture, forging his way in the design world as a forward-thinker that goes against the grain. In 2002 Tom Dixon opened his eponymous London-based brand, offering top-quality furniture, accessories and lighting. The brand is at the forefront of British design, producing lights that are innovative and visually stunning. His most famous creations, the Melt pendant light and the Spring pendant lamp showcase his inventive and creative mind. "More successful objects look like a lamp or a chair and aren’t trying to be something else. They’re what I like to call “expressive minimalism” – they have to retain the lampness or chairness about them, because I don’t like it when things are so minimal you can’t recognise them." - Tom Dixon

Vintage Venini Murano Fulvio Bianconi Double Incalmo Blown Glass Vase

Vintage Venini Murano Fulvio Bianconi Double Incalmo Blown Glass Vase

By Venini, Fulvio Bianconi

Located in Uccle, BE

Among the many designs and different techniques he experimented within his collaboration with Venini, Fulvio Bianconi used the "A incalmo" technique which requires great mastery from the glassblowers. This is an "a doppio incalmo" vase which simply means a double incalmo. Cylindrical vase, composed of three distinct colors. The base in black glass, the middle part in red glass and the upper part in blue glass. The vases were obtained by merging several "rings" of molten glass. Designed in 1951, the vase is in very good condition. It was produced in the 1950s and bears the acid seal "venini murano italia". The vase is published in many books, and is sometimes misattributed to Thomas Stearns who will be inspired by these forms and these particular techniques developed by Fulvio Bianconi, Paolo Venini and also Ricardo Licata...
