About the Item

Exquisite Japanese contemporary gilded and intricately hand painted porcelain vase, a signed masterpiece by widely respected master porcelain artist of the Imari-Arita region of southern Japan. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain – a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist's is the recipient of numerous awards for his outstanding work and his unique application of platinum and gold on porcelain. His profile available upon request. Stunning clusters of cherry blossom in pink/purple set against a seamless fish-scale pattern expressed in a magnificent purple and intricate gold details decorate the outer surface of this large vase, while the inner surface exhibits a mixture of smooth and matte gilding. The auspicious fish scale pattern represent waves. A wish for a lasting peaceful life, as waves that continue in the vast ocean. It is a beloved theme and has been extensively used in Japanese art and literature for centuries. This stunning vase with its glamorous shape, accentuated by the beautiful platinum work on the inside is a mesmerizing porcelain piece that boasts the artist's masterful hand-painting as well as his signature platinum work on porcelain. “Fired-on gold,” his signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome over glaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. This stunning porcelain vase comes in a custom-made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 16 in, D 9 in.
