About the Item

Striking large-scale hand-blown art glass vase dating to approximately the 1960s. The generously proportioned vessel features a warm amber-gold body with a dense field of fine bubbles throughout the glass, creating a wonderfully textured and luminous appearance. #5592 The rounded body rises to a short neck and broad, dramatically flared rim. Embedded throughout the vessel are large-scale polychrome millefiori murrine, displaying distinctive organic leaf and feather-like patterns in vivid shades of red, orange, yellow, cream, green and dark blue. The combination of richly bubbled glass, bold millefiori decoration and free-blown form reflects the influence of postwar Italian and Murano glassmaking. The unusually large and individually expressive murrine give the piece considerable visual impact from every angle. A substantial and highly decorative example of Mid-Century Modern art glass, equally effective displayed alone or incorporated into a collection of Italian and European studio glass.
