About the Item

This exquisite item is a vintage Venetian art glass vase from Murano, Italy. It was crafted of delicate, interwoven glass latticework crafted using the masterful mid-century "Zanfirico" and “Latticino” filigree techniques. The vase’s pattern is not painted on. Rather, to create this look, a master glassblower assembled complex rods called "canes" and then twisted these alternating spiraled ribbons of solid turquoise-aqua blue flanked by incredibly intricate, white latticino mesh threads. These threads of colored glass were fused together while molten. Interspersed within the spiral are shimmering, golden-brown metallic lines. This effect is known as “Aventurine,” which is achieved by secretly folding copper crystals into the molten glass mixture—a legendary technique pioneered in Murano. The piece features a classic trumpet or tight trumpet silhouette, exhibiting a slender, elongated neck that gently swells outward toward a bulbous base and a slightly flared rim. The base is beautifully finished, with a tightly swirled pontil at the very center. This swirl is a signature sign of traditional hand-blown glass, showing where the blowpipe was separated from the piece. The green felt pads were likely added later by an owner to protect wood tabletops from scratches. While many of these pieces were exported without labels or signatures, prominent Murano foundries like Fratelli Toso, A.V.E.M., and Venini were internationally renowned for mastering the Zanfirico filigree technique.
