About the Item

Elegant glazed ceramic vase, likely of Italian or French origin, dating to the 1960s. The elongated oval body () features a refined hand-incised texture, later glazed to create a delicate “micro-scratched” effect typical of the Mid-Century period. The surface shows a light, natural craquelure, a testament to its age and firing technique. One side is decorated with the stylized portrait of a young woman, her voluminous, graphic hairstyle evoking the fashion of the 1960s. The figure is rendered in hand-incised black glaze with polychrome accents—orange, light blue, and pink—on the folds of her dress. The reverse features two circular geometric elements in bright orange and blue, framed by concentric black rings, creating a striking visual contrast and making the piece decorative from every angle. This vase is firmly rooted in the European Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, echoing the work of notable ceramic workshops such as Vallauris in France or Bitossi in Italy, where clean lines, stylized graphics, and vibrant color accents defined a modern yet approachable decorative language. Perfect as a statement piece in vintage-inspired interiors or as a striking accent in contemporary spaces, it can be displayed on a low cabinet, console table, or shelf, either on its own or within a curated grouping of 1950s–1970s ceramics for a more dramatic effect. The vase has some very slight defects on the rim, as can be seen in the photos. Dimensions: diameter 20 cm / 7.87 in, height 36 cm / 14.17 in
