About the Item

Hand-thrown stoneware bud vase featuring expressive cobalt blue brushwork over a warm speckled glaze. The rounded form and painterly surface create a strong sculptural presence, balancing organic craftsmanship with modern abstract design. Signed on underside. Circa 1960s–1970s. Influence The gestural cobalt decoration recalls the abstract-expressionist approach of mid-century American studio pottery, particularly the work of Peter Voulkos and related West Coast ceramic artists. The piece also reflects influences from Japanese folk pottery traditions through its spontaneous brushwork and restrained stoneware form.
