About the Item

Pair of ruby red art glass vases belonging to the universe of mid-century Danish design and offered as an indivisible set. The pieces relate formally to the language developed by Per Lütken, one of the great masters of 20th-century Danish glass. Lütken was born in 1916 and worked for decades with Holmegaard, creating an extensive body of vases, bowls, decanters and art-glass objects. His work is recognized for its organic forms, rounded volumes, pure silhouettes and particular sensitivity to the way glass captures, transforms and reflects light. Holmegaard is one of the most important historic houses in the Danish glassmaking tradition. Its history dates back to the 19th century and, during the 20th century, it became an international reference for Scandinavian design. The collaboration with Per Lütken was especially significant: together they developed a vision of glass that combined high-quality production, functionality and a strong sculptural dimension. These vases feature rounded bodies, open necks, raised bases and polished surfaces. The intense ruby-red color brings depth and visual strength, while the relationship between the two pieces creates a balanced composition with a strong decorative presence. The set contains clear references to the formal universe of Per Lütken and Holmegaard: simple yet expressive forms, carefully considered proportions, vibrant color and a constant relationship between volume, transparency and light. This aesthetic represents one of the most recognizable moments in modern Danish glass, when utilitarian objects began to acquire a fully sculptural and collectible presence. The pair integrates naturally into Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern, modern and contemporary interiors. Offered as an indivisible set, the correspondence between the two pieces is essential to their visual interest and value as a design ensemble.
