About the Item

This hand painted, one of a kind Japanese decorative porcelain vase is the work of a second-generation master porcelain artist of the Imari-Arita region of Japan. The creator of this unique piece, comes second to none in the creation of extremely complicated geometric patterns made possible through the application of the most sophisticated and demanding techniques of miniature painting to the complex and curved surfaces of porcelain pieces. This captivating porcelain piece features a hexagonal pattern in dark blue, red and shades of green on a pristine white background with intricate gold details that draw the attention of the viewer. Each hexagon represents the head, tail and limbs of a turtle or kame, which in Japanese art and culture is regarded as a symbol of longevity, wisdom, protection and the unity of the heavens and earth. The curved upper portion of the turtle’s shell is said to represent the heavens and the flat underbelly the earth. This vase comes with a custom made wooden case signed by the artist.
