About the Item

This magnificent Murano Sommerso uranium glass vase, attributed to renowned Italian glass designer Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, is a striking example of mid-century Venetian art glass. The elegant teardrop form combines intensely vibrant ruby-red glass with luminous bright green uranium glass, producing exceptional depth and colour through the layered Sommerso technique. The different layers create a dramatic three-dimensional optical effect, with the colours appearing to shift as the vase is viewed from different angles. The uranium-green glass is particularly spectacular under UV light, producing a strong fluorescent glow while remaining beautifully vivid in natural daylight. The rich ruby layer provides a superb contrast, making this a highly decorative and distinctive collector's piece. Flavio Poli was one of the most important Italian glass designers of the mid-20th century and is particularly celebrated for his innovative use of the Sommerso technique. His designs for Seguso are characterised by bold sculptural forms, saturated colours and sophisticated layered-glass construction. This substantial 12-inch vase would make an impressive standalone centrepiece and is especially appealing to collectors of Murano, Sommerso and uranium art glass.
