About the Item

Some objects rely on contrast rather than complexity. The ‘Riccio’ vase by Gae Aulenti for Venini, designed in 2006 follows this approach through the combination of a sculptural silhouette and refined Venetian glassmaking. In this green edition, the familiar form takes on a more luminous and aquatic presence, shifting in tone depending on the surrounding light. Design The vase presents a spherical body executed in transparent green blown glass with an iridescent finish that moves between emerald, petrol and violet reflections. Across the surface, hand-applied pointed protrusions emerge rhythmically from circular glass pads, creating a tactile composition that feels both organic and architectural. Light refracts through the translucent body and casts layered shadows around the object, reinforcing the sculptural quality of the design. Gae Aulenti approached objects with the same spatial awareness seen in her architectural work. Rather than treating the vase as a decorative vessel alone, she transformed it into a compact glass sculpture with volume and tension. Venini’s long-standing expertise in Murano glassmaking becomes evident in the execution of the applied elements, each carefully attached while the glass remained molten. Produced in a limited edition of fifty examples, this piece is signed and numbered ‘venini 2003 gae aulenti 21/50’ on the base. The composition balances playfulness with restraint. From a distance, the silhouette appears almost celestial, whereas the closer view reveals the precision and rhythm of the hand-worked details. Condition The vase remains in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and handling. The glass surface is well preserved, with no chips or cracks observed, and all applied elements remain intact and secure.

Gae Aulenti Table Lamp ‘Poveglia’ in Murano Glass for Vistosi, Italy 1969

Gae Aulenti Table Lamp ‘Poveglia’ in Murano Glass for Vistosi, Italy 1969

By Gae Aulenti, Vistosi

Located in Hellouw, NL

Gae Aulenti was a very versatile and talented architect who undoubtedly occupied an illustrious position in the history of design. An alumna of Politecnico di Milano, she has completed a series of prestigious projects during her long career spanning more than fifty years. For example, Aulenti was responsible for redesigning the Musée d'Orsay and creating a space for the Musée National d'Art Moderne in the Center Pompidou in Paris. In addition to these projects of an architectural nature, Aulenti has managed to leave a mark in the world of interior design with a multitude of furniture, lamps and objects. Many of these objects starred as backdrops in films and advertisements. Take, for example, the Locus Solus garden set in the 1969 classic La Piscine with Alain Delon, Romy Schneider and a young Jane Birkin. This will be an indelible memory for a design-loving audience. Design Aulenti made this table lamp called Poveglia for Vetreria Vistosi. An Italian manufacturer specializing in decorative lighting made of blown glass. The lamp consists of two separate parts. The round and transparent base, which is marked on the inside with a blue made-in-Italy label, has a notch. A yellow hood is attached to the base by a cold connection and shows a beautiful murrine drawing. This murrine technique is one of the most complicated and time-consuming techniques. The artist first coats a center rod with a variety of colorful glass liquids. This rod exhibits rainbow cross...
