About the Item

Fritz von Stockmayer grey satin porcelain vase duo for Rosenthal, Germany, late 1940s. This refined pair of Rosenthal porcelain vases shows Stockmayer’s elegant approach to hand-painted surface decoration, combining soft grey satin glaze with delicate floral and branch-like ornamentation. The duo includes one tall vase and one smaller bowl-shaped vase, both with rounded sculptural forms and a quiet, sophisticated presence. The satin glaze gives the porcelain a soft, almost textile-like surface, while the painted decoration remains restrained and carefully balanced. Rather than overwhelming the form, the pattern follows the curvature of each vessel and adds depth to the grey ground. Designed by Fritz von Stockmayer, an important Rosenthal artist and porcelain painter, these pieces belong to the early postwar period of German porcelain design. They reflect a transitional moment in Rosenthal production, between traditional decorative porcelain and the more modern design direction the company would develop in the following decades. A strong choice for collectors of Rosenthal porcelain, German ceramic design, hand-painted porcelain, 1940s decorative arts and understated modern interiors.
